Question: At what age can a boy start weight lifting?

Answer: Weight lifting can begin during the adolescent years however caution against heavy weight lifting must be used until after the growth plates are fused to avoid bone injury.

I recommend light weights for 3 sets of 10 reps 3 x a week.  Take it easy for the first 6-8 weeks.  It takes at least 6 weeks to build muscle.

Also combine strengthening with a good stretching program.

Lastly, remember cardiovascular - swimming, cycling, jogging of soft surfaces.
